Statement of Faith

What We Believe

Here at New Life Baptist Church you will find that God's Word is our sole rule of faith and practice. We are Baptist by conviction and believe that we are following in the direct line of the teachings of Jesus Christ when He was on the earth over two thousand years ago.

At New Life, you will find our church is not about religion but is about a relationship. That relationship is found in the person of Jesus Christ. Religion says, "Do!" The Cross of Christ says, "Done!"

The Bible

We affirm that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired by God, preserved in purity, and are the final authority for all faith and practice. We believe in the infallibility of the Bible and that God kept His promise to preserve scripture through the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts, and the King James Version is a correct English translation of God's Word. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 12:6-7; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 24:35)

God

There is only one true and living God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. He is holy, sovereign, and worthy of all worship. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 1 John 5:7; Isaiah 45:5)

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the eternal, only-begotten, Son of God. He is fully divine but became the physical manifestation of the Godhead through the virgin birth. He lived a sinless life, died as the perfect sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the grave, and ascended to the Father, where He intercedes for believers. (John 1:1, 14; Matthew 1:18-23; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:24; Romans 8:34; Acts 1:9-11)

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Godhead, who convicts of sin, regenerates the sinner, indwells the believer, empowers for holy living, and guides into all truth. (John 14:16-17, 26; John 16:7-13; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18)

Humanity and Sin

Mankind was created in the image of God. Though sinless at the time of creation, mankind fell into sin through Adam's choice of disobedience. As a result, all are born sinners and are spiritually dead in need of salvation. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 5:12; Romans 3:10,23; Ephesians 2:1)

Salvation

The Bible clearly declares that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is not earned by works but is the free gift of God to all who believe. The believer is eternally secure in Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10; John 10:28-29)

Christian Life

Believers are called to live their lives in a manner that is holy and obedient to God's commands, bearing fruit through good works, empowered by the Spirit, and conforming to the image of Christ. (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:22-23; James 2:17-18; 1 Peter 1:15-16)

Satan and Evil

Satan is a real being. He is the enemy of God and man. He was created as an angel but fell through pride. His ultimate defeat is assured through the finished work of Christ. (Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:13-17; 1 Peter 5:8; Revelation 20:10)

Christ's Return and Millennium

Jesus Christ will return bodily and imminently to rapture His Church, followed by the seven-year Tribulation and His literal millennial reign on earth. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:1-6; Matthew 24:29-31; Acts 1:11)

Eternal State

The saved will dwell eternally with the Lord in Heaven, while the unsaved will be eternally separated from God, and cast in the literal lake of fire described in the Book of Revelation. (John 14:1-3; Revelation 20:11-15; Matthew 25:46; 2 Corinthians 5:8)

Priesthood of All Believers

Every believer has full and direct access to God through Jesus Christ and is called to serve, pray, and worship without the need of any human mediator. (1 Peter 2:5,9; Hebrews 4:14-16; Revelation 1:5-6)

Ordinances

Christ instituted two ordinances for the local church:

  • Baptism: By immersion, for believers only, symbolizing death, burial, and resurrection in Christ.
  • The Lord's Supper: A memorial of Christ's death, to be observed by obedient believers.(Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

The Local Church

The local church is a congregation of born-again believers united for worship, instruction, fellowship, and the fulfillment of the Great Commission. It is self-governed and accountable to Christ alone. (Acts 2:41-47; Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27)
